BSD Creative Dance Camps provide children with a creative movement curriculum that introduces them to the foundations of diverse dance styles in imaginative ways. Students learn songs and dances, play dance games, and create movement stories to learn the gross and fine motor skills associated with dance. They explore rhythm and music as it applies to dance, and do arts and crafts projects after enjoying a snack and a break. This fun-filled and imaginative camp is perfect for the seasoned creative dancer, as well as those who have never taken a class before. It is a great way to build new friendships, and share your love of movement with others!

Campers staying for the afternoon will eat lunch (not provided by BSD), play in the Green Street Playground, create sets and costumes for the performance, and continue working on their dancing.

Planet Earth Creative Dance Camp (July 6 – 10):This year’s theme is Planet Earth, where campers learn about and explore the many diverse climates, animals, and ecosystems of our amazing planet. Dancers will create a dance performance based on this rich theme, to be performed for parents on Friday, July 10th at 11:30am.

MORE INFO

During the summer, BSD offers a two-week dance intensive at our studios at 22 High Street. This year’s intensive, divided into three levels, is jam-packed with classes in many different styles and techniques with guest artists and master teachers from all over the world. Students will continue to take the basics, such as ballet and modern, while also being exposed to other styles, such as ballroom, hip-hop, jazz, improvisation, bellydance, Indian Classical Dance, and more!

Participating in a dance intensive is a wonderful way for a dancer to improve quickly. Not only is the student fresh in the morning and ready for optimal learning; they will also feel a significant and satisfying difference in their strength and ability in a short period of time. Working with students every day allows the teachers to develop specific themes in depth, without having to wait a whole week to work with a student again. We highly recommend taking all available weeks of the dance intensive for maximum benefit.

Summer Workshops

MORE INFO

Intermediate/Advanced Workshop with Los Little Guys: June 15 – 20

TEEN/ADULT: $200

Los Little Guys is a physical dance theatre collaboration initiated in 2017 by Erik Elizondo and Dimitri Kalaitzidis after studying at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance in Austria. Since their foundation, Los Little Guys has engaged in residencies, presented work, and offered workshops and classes in Germany, USA, Mexico, India, and the UK.

In this workshop, Los Little Guys will focus on components of physical research through the study of improvisation, floor techniques, and structured material in order to discover the complexities and range of our movement potential. The goal is to develop an understanding of the sources of movement patterns in order to bring clarity and depth into the way we enact physicality and movement research.

An informal performance featuring Los Little Guys and participants of the workshop will be held on Saturday, June 20th at noon.

Modern & Contemporary Workshop: July 27 – 31

Half day: 9am-12pm
Full day: 9am-5pm

Drop off as early as 8:30, pick up as late as 5:30.

Half day: $200/week
Full day: $400/week

This workshop is meant for dancers of all ages and levels to explore and expand their creative voices. We will begin every day with guided improvisation and a modern dance class. We will learn about different choreographers and their approaches to creating, and we will develop a “choreographic tool belt” that helps us to be effectively inventive and articulate in our work.
Students will create solo and group work to be shown on the final day, July 31 at 4pm.
