Each spring, Brattleboro School of Dance produces a recital for its Creative Dance; Children’s Level Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop; Youth Level Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop and Modern; and some lower level teen/adult classes to present informal demonstrations of work they’ve been doing all year. It’s very important to BSD that class time is spent learning technique, so our teachers work hard to present skills and exercises learned during class time in creative ways for this performance. This less formal performance opportunity allows students who may have a hard time committing to a full rehearsal schedule outside of class to participate in a performance. Our philosophy is to make costuming easy and accessible. Rather than have families buy costumes that they may only use once, we loan costumes from the school’s collection to participants. Ballet classes do not participate in the recital to insure the integrity of the ballet training and BSD’s progressive curriculum. Ballet students are invited to participate in the Spring Dance Concert produced by Company of Muses.
