PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

Intermediate Contemporary Workshop with Los Little Guys (ages 12 & up)

Los Little Guys is a Mexico-USA based project that began between Erik Elizondo and Dimitri Kalaitzidis in 2017. Since its foundation they have engaged in residencies, created and performed both original and collaborative work, and offered classes and workshops for professionals and companies in Berlin, London, Brussels, Budapest, Milan, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Montreal, Vancouver, Reykjavik, Delhi, Bangalore, and Kuala Lumpur among others. Primarily utilizing improvisation as a means of movement creation, the motivation behind their work is to continuously find ways to reeducate the body through the interaction between imagination and physical space. The name “los little guys” was conceived out of the desire not to conform to common constructs of contemporary dance which idolize big and strong bodies and to always allow playfulness to be a part of their practice.

Dance Camp (ages 3-4)

We will move, stretch, jump, hop, play, and dance! All activities and exercises are designed to engage the young child in music, dance, and expression. We use our imaginations and creativity to find new ways of moving our bodies. Each week will be centered around a different theme, and dancers will have a chance to perform for their families at the end of the camp. The themes this year are Magical Creatures (JULY 5-9) AND Frozen (AUG 16-20)

Dance Camp (ages 5-7)

We will explore lots of different ways to dance, all with the goal of having fun and moving our bodies! We will draw on different styles such as ballet, modern, hip hop, jazz, tap, and ballroom to learn about all the ways we can express ourselves through movement. Each week will be centered around a theme, and dancers will have a chance to perform for their families at the end of the camp. The themes this year are Magical Creatures (JULY 5-9) AND Frozen (AUG 16-20)

Dance Intensives (ages 8 & Up)

For dancers who have a strong foundation in ballet. Adults are welcome too.

Dance Intensives are geared towards the dancer who has experience and is eager to improve their technique. Each day will consist of at least two classes in styles such as ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, pilates, Classical Indian Dance, Irish Step Dance, Dunham, ballroom, and yoga. An emphasis will be placed on building strength, flexibility, artistry, musicality, and a powerful love of dance! These Intensives will be taught by guest and local faculty.

Hip Hop Camp (ages 7-12)

In this camp we explore the fundamentals of Hip Hop and learn to express ourselves through this unique and powerful art form. Students will learn foundation steps and moves of various hip hop styles such as Popping, Locking, House, and Breakin’ while incorporating freestyle to encourage each dancer’s personal style. Dancers will work together on a dance that will be performed for family and friends at the end of the week.

Don Quixote Ballet Camp (ages 6-12)

For those dancers who love ballet, we will learn about the origins and significance of this historical and beautiful art form. We will practice the joy and artistry of ballet, while strengthening our bodies, increasing our flexibility, and finding our innate musicality. Ballet is for all genders, and we make a great effort to make everyone feel like they belong. We will learn choreography based on the famous ballet Don Quixote, and will perform for family and friends at the end of the week.

Intro to Dance for Teens & Tweens (ages 12-18)

For those who want to learn to dance and have no experience! We will learn the foundations of ballet, modern, and other dance forms, and begin to cultivate our artistic and athletic abilities.
